At Susi Holmes Photography we create customized portraits of pets & their guardians. We capture and highlight the personality/quirks of your paw-some companion while making this experience memorable and enjoyable for everyone involved. Here is what to expect from a "Susi Holmes Photography" experience:

"Meet & Greet"

Each session begins with a one-on-one consultation. Our preferred method is on location, in person, with pet/s; to mimic the day of the session. This allows the pet to establish a connection with us and usually makes them feel more at ease by the photoshoot. If an in-person appointment is not possible, a phone consult is available. You can use this time to tell us more about your pet: elaborate on their quirks & endearing personality. This is also a good time to tell us about your session's expectations & goals, as well as to ask us any questions. We want this process to be as easy, and stress-free, as possible. We can also begin the conversation about the display options that will be available for your finished portrait. We believe that a print is the most meaningful way to enjoy photography. A wall display can be enjoyed anytime without any effort. Professional printing will last a lifetime - sometimes even longer. The portraits we create for you today will become family heirlooms to be passed down from generation to generation!

"Book & Plan"

Once you have decided that a session with Susi Holmes Photography is the right fit for you, we can work together to find the package that best suits your needs & budget. At this time we will also determine the best location where to photograph your pet. If you do not have a preference, we can suggest suitable locations. To secure your session we require a signed contract (and property/model release form) and a non-refundable retainer (creative session fee). Retainer is forfeit if session is canceled with less than 48 hours notice. Consultation and "book & plan" usually occur at the same time.

"Click & Pose"

The session can take place in the comfort of your home or at a location of your choosing. During the sitting you can expect a fun & relaxed professional experience. Our typical session lasts 1 hour, we find that for most pets this is enough time to get   comfortable and lighten up. Guardians of particularly introverted (or very high energy)  pets often opt for a longer, 1.5 or 2 hours, sitting. Please rest assured that we will create beautiful portraits of your companion. Do not fret if the session is not going as you had anticipated. We are experienced and we will create something wonderful that you will cherish forever! Remember that pets feed on energy, so the more relaxed you are, the most likely they will be as well. We want this experience to be enjoyable & laid back: a special paw-sitive bonding time with your animal! Don't forget to bring your favorite toys and treats to the session. They will be a great aid and motivation to coax your pet into wonderful poses.

"View & Choose"

After all the hard work is done, the fun begins! Approximately 2 weeks after the session we will schedule another in person consultation; the "View & Choose" appointment. This is the time when you view your final images and make your selections. We will go over your ordering needs and you will be able to view some samples, to assist with your decision process. We will be happy to help you decide which display best suits your needs & decor style. The ordering process is simple and enjoyable! If you have ordered table top display, or wall art displays, your order will be ready for pick up approximately 1 week from your "View & Choose" appointment. If you have ordered albums or books, your order will be ready for pick up approximately 2 weeks from your "View & Choose" appointment.

Tips &Tricks

"Paw-some Looks "

Whether you choose to get this done professionally, or do it yourself, make sure that your pet is camera ready. A good brushing will help smooth the hair and make the coat shine and ready for action! Bathing is typically unnecessary for cats & exotics, but can be a very good idea for dogs - especially if they spend a lot of time in the outdoors. If you are comfortable with it (you can use a professional groomer instead) a nail trim is also a great idea for both cats & dogs. Cleaning around the eyes & nose area, and removing any build up that might have accumulated, is also crucial for beautiful portraits. Don't forget to wipe the ears too; gently wipe away any wax buildup that is visible in the outer ear for a pampered & camera ready pet!

"Purr-fect Style"

If you are planning to be part of the session, we are thrilled! We love capturing the special bond between pets & guardians and we can offer some tips. This is a very special time meant to create memories (to be displayed/last a lifetime) so you'll want to look your best. Since these portraits will be around for a LONG time, you may want to choose timeless attire. Choose a shade that will contrast with the colorings of your pet. Solid colors photograph best, prints are not as flattering, darker & jeweled tones look great in photographs. Long (or 3/4) sleeves are preferable, they allow the viewer to focus attention on the subject, rather than on the clothing choices. Your clothing should be comfortable, but also in excellent condition - pilling, stains and snags may be visible in your final images. If you plan to play with your pet (on the ground/outdoors) make sure that you consider this in your wardrobe choices. Last but not least, don't forget about shoes & socks! They most likely will be visible in some of the final images; it is important that they complement your outfit rather than detract from it.
